VinFast Promotes Tapan Ghosh to CEO of Asia Operations Amid Major Regional Push
In a significant leadership restructuring aimed at solidifying its footprint across emerging automotive markets, Vietnamese electric vehicle giant VinFast has officially appointed Tapan Ghosh as Chief Executive Officer of VinFast Asia.
The elevation substantially expands Ghosh’s mandate beyond the Indian subcontinent, placing him at the helm of VinFast’s broader regional expansion across Asian markets while keeping India anchored as a core manufacturing and volume driver.
Leading VinFast's Initial India Charge
Tapan Ghosh took charge as the CEO of VinFast India in October 2025, steering the Vietnamese marque through its critical early market-entry phase. Under his leadership, the brand orchestrated the high-profile rollout of its mass-market volume crossovers, the VF 6 and VF 7, establishing early brand traction in an increasingly competitive electric vehicle landscape.
Ghosh’s tenure in India was marked by aggressive physical retail scaling. Under his direction, VinFast expanded its domestic retail and service network to over 50 operational outlets, establishing an immediate presence across Tier-1 and Tier-2 metropolitan regions. The company has set an ambitious target to scale this footprint to 75 outlets across 60 cities by the end of 2026.
Local Manufacturing & Infrastructure in Tamil Nadu
Beyond dealership footprint expansion, Ghosh played an instrumental role in driving VinFast’s deep industrial localization and manufacturing strategy.
A central pillar of this roadmap is VinFast's integrated electric vehicle manufacturing hub in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Ghosh has overseen key milestones in local supplier onboarding, high-voltage component localization, and assembly line preparations designed to give VinFast a competitive cost structure against legacy domestic and global automakers. This factory forms the foundation of VinFast’s comprehensive multi-billion-dollar product roadmap and aggressive India masterplan, which aims to roll out diverse electric models across multiple vehicle segments.
The Pan-Asian Mandate
With his elevation to CEO of VinFast Asia, Ghosh’s primary objective shifts from single-country execution to steering multi-market regional expansion across high-growth Southeast Asian and South Asian territories.
Under this expanded executive remit, he is tasked with unifying VinFast’s commercial go-to-market strategies, expanding right-hand-drive supply chain corridors, and rolling out regional multi-segment mobility solutions. This includes accelerating the introduction of VinFast’s commercial electric buses and electric two-wheeler portfolios across developing Asian metropolitan hubs, as well as integrating sister-company Vingroup ecosystems, such as GSM, or Green SM, the electric ride-hailing fleets and V-Green regional fast-charging infrastructure networks across key Asian territories like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Why Asia Is Central to VinFast’s Global Ambitions
Ghosh’s appointment comes at a crucial strategic turning point for VinFast globally. As Western EV markets navigate shifting tariff structures, stringent protectionist policies, and evolving import regulations, VinFast is refocusing major capital allocation and executive bandwidth toward developing Asian economies experiencing rapid EV adoption waves.
By appointing a proven regional leader to oversee Asia as a consolidated vertical, VinFast aims to create agile, cross-border operational synergy. In this setup, India acts as a pivotal engineering and cost-efficient manufacturing anchor, supplying localized vehicle platforms, powertrain components, and right-hand-drive exports to fast-growing Asian neighbors, allowing VinFast to scale manufacturing volume, hedge geopolitical risks, and build dominant market share across the continent.
Footnote
Tapan Ghosh’s transition to CEO of VinFast Asia marks a pivotal phase in the automaker's global restructuring. Armed with deep operational experience in network scaling, plant localization, and fleet integration, Ghosh takes the helm at a time when winning the Asian EV corridor is fundamental to VinFast's ultimate goal of becoming a top-tier global electric mobility heavyweight.
