Exclusive: VinFast VF 5 Spotted Testing in Gurugram
A heavily camouflaged VinFast VF 5 prototype has been caught testing in Gurugram. The latest sighting shows the compact electric SUV undergoing real-world evaluation in Indian traffic.
A heavily camouflaged VinFast VF 5 has been spotted testing on Indian roads once again. The latest video, recorded by our dear friend Evian, shows the compact electric crossover undergoing real-world testing in traffic in Gurugram.
The sighting indicates that VinFast continues to evaluate the VF 5 for India. However, road testing alone does not confirm a launch, and the company has not announced its Indian specifications, price, or launch timeline.
What Does the Latest VF 5 Spy Video Reveal?
Despite the extensive camouflage, the test car’s compact dimensions, upright stance, and short overhangs are clearly visible. Its headlights and lower auxiliary lights appear to be production-ready, while the front bumper and closed-off grille remain concealed.
The prototype appears to have a different front design and cabin layout from the VF 5 already sold overseas

VinFast VF 5 Battery, Power and Range
The current Vietnamese-market VF 5 measures 3,967 mm long, 1,723 mm wide and 1,579 mm tall, with a 2,514 mm wheelbase. This places it comfortably below the VF 6 and within India’s sub-four-metre category.
It uses a 37.23 kWh usable battery and a front-mounted electric motor producing 100 kW of power and 135 Nm of torque. VinFast claims a range of 326 km under the NEDC cycle.
The overseas model supports up to 50 kW DC fast charging, with a claimed 10–70 percent charging time of approximately 33 minutes. Its maximum AC charging rate is 6.6 kW.
Specification | Overseas-market VinFast VF 5 |
|---|---|
Battery | 37.23 kWh usable |
Motor output | 100 kW |
Maximum torque | 135 Nm |
Claimed range | 326 km NEDC |
DC charging | Up to approximately 50 kW |
10–70% charging | 33 minutes |
Length | 3,967 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,514 mm |
These specifications should only be treated as a reference. The Indian model could receive a different battery, motor tune, feature list, or charging capability.
Where Could the VF 5 Sit in India?
If launched, the VF 5 would become VinFast’s most accessible five-door electric passenger vehicle in India, sitting below the VF 6. Its dimensions could position it against compact electric cars such as the Tata Punch.ev, while higher variants could also overlap with entry-level versions of the Tata Nexon.ev and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
VinFast already sells the locally assembled VF 6 and VF 7 in India, giving the company an established manufacturing and retail base for another model. VinFast India
Pricing will be critical. The VF 5 operates in a far more price-sensitive segment than the VF 6 and VF 7, where battery localisation, equipment and warranty coverage could strongly influence its prospects.
ElecTree Take
The latest sighting confirms that development work on the VF 5 continues, but it should not yet be treated as confirmation of an Indian launch.
A competitively priced VF 5 could give VinFast the volume-oriented product missing from its current Indian portfolio. Its compact dimensions and usable city range make a strong case on paper, but the final battery specification, localisation level and price will determine whether it can seriously challenge established compact EVs.
