Top 10 Best Selling EVs in India: September 2026
Tata Punch EV led the 4 wheeler EV retail sales in September 2026, followed by Mahindra XEV 9S in second and Tata Nexon EV in third position. Here are the top 10 EVs along with their best-selling variants.
Tata Punch EV was the best-selling EV in India in September 2026 with 4,666 units, followed by Mahindra XEV 9S with 4,439 units and Tata Nexon EV with 3,469 units. The top 10 EVs together registered 25,450 units, 70.2% of the 36,243 EVs registered in the month as per data sourced by ElecTree on October 4, 2026.
This ranking excludes the 2,150 units of the VinFast GSM Limo Green. Since VinFast uses the same model for self owned fleet, a distinction between own purchase and third party demand is difficult to make.
Brand Wise Split
Tata has six of the top 10 EVs, with 14,522 units, 57.1% of the top 10’s registrations. Mahindra has two with 6,393 units, MG one with 3,419 units and Maruti Suzuki one with 1,116 units.
1. Punch EV
The Punch EV registered 4,666 units, a 12.9% market share. This was up 30.7% from 3,571 in August and 278.1% from 1,234 in September 2025. It moved up from second place in August. The Empowered+ S was its best-selling variant with 3,208 units.
2. XEV 9S
The XEV 9S registered 4,439 units, a 12.2% market share. This was up 15.2% from 3,852 in August, but it slipped from first place to second. The Pack Two Above was its best-selling variant with 1,448 units. The 7 seater option sold 1,426 units and 22 units were of the 6 seater option.
3. Nexon EV
The Nexon EV registered 3,469 units, a 9.6% market share. This was up 22.4% from 2,835 in August and 42.8% from 2,430 in September 2025. It moved up from fourth place in August. The Fearless was its best-selling variant with 1,037 units.
4. Windsor
The Windsor registered 3,419 units, a 9.4% market share. This was up 3.1% from 3,316 in August and down 2.5% from 3,505 in September 2025. It slipped from third place in August and finished 50 units behind the Nexon EV. It remains the best-selling EV of 2026 so far with 34,012 units between January and September. The Essence Pro was its best-selling variant with 2,066 units.
5. XEV 9e
The XEV 9e registered 1,954 units, a 5.4% market share. This was up 13.7% from 1,718 in August and down 21% from 2,474 in September 2025. It moved up from seventh place in August. The Pack Three was its best-selling variant with 719 units.
6. Sierra EV
The Sierra EV registered 1,951 units, a 5.4% market share and just 3 units behind the XEV 9e. This was up 35.1% from 1,444 in August. It moved up from ninth place in August, its first full month of sales. The Empowered A was its best-selling variant with 597 units.
7. Tiago EV
The Tiago EV registered 1,601 units, a 4.4% market share. This was down 33.5% from 2,407 in August and up 24.7% from 1,284 in September 2025. It slipped from fifth place in August. The Creative+ was its best-selling variant with 1,202 units.
8. Harrier EV
The Harrier EV registered 1,591 units, a 4.4% market share. This was down 13% from 1,828 in August and 4.8% from 1,671 in September 2025. It slipped from sixth place in August. The Fearless+ was its best-selling variant with 821 units.
9. Curvv EV
The Curvv EV registered 1,244 units, a 3.4% market share. This was down 0.9% from 1,255 in August and up 184% from 438 in September 2025. It moved up from tenth place in August. The Accomplished X was its best-selling variant with 755 units.
10. eVitara
The eVitara registered 1,116 units, a 3.1% market share. This was down 24.1% from 1,471 in August. It slipped from eighth place in August and did not register any units in September 2025. The Alpha was its best-selling variant with 420 units.
