JSW MG Motor India EV Sales Breakdown for August 2026: Windsor Dominates as Brand Totals 4,762 Units
Sales breakup report analyzing JSW MG Motor India's performance for August 2026. We analyze the brand's total sales, break down MoM trends against July 2026 and YoY figures from August 2025, and provide an in-depth, variant-by-variant analysis of all the MG EVs
MG Motor India registered retail sales of 4,762 electric vehicles in August 2026, experiencing a sequential 19.9% MoM cool-down from July's peak of 5,947 units. Despite the month-on-month softening across the wider passenger electric vehicle ecosystem, the brand’s robust market standing continues to be anchored by stellar demand for its core volume offerings. This is a trend mirroring the broader market stabilization detailed in our analysis on Indian passenger EV registrations in August, where MoM sales were down while YoY sales remained growing.
Overall Portfolio Summary
- July 2026 Comparison: 5,947 units
- Total August 2026 Sales: 4,762 units (down ~19.9% MoM)
- August 2025 Comparison: 5,620 units

- MG Windsor EV: 3,224 units (67.7% share)
- MG Comet EV: 806 units (16.9% share)
- MG ZS EV: 524 units (11.0% share)
- MG M9: 187 units (3.9% share)
- MG Cyberster: 21 units (0.4% share)
Model-Wise Breakdown:
1. MG Windsor EV
The Windsor sold 3,224 units in August, compared to 4,019 units in July. This was also down 25.0% YoY from 4,297 units in August 2025. Due to this, it loses the 2nd spot in the Top selling Indian EVs spot but still has a very stable footing as one of the highest selling EVs in India.
The Windsor EV continues to serve as the absolute cornerstone of MG Motor India’s electric vehicle strategy, capturing the lion's share of the brand's monthly tally with over 67% of total volume. Introducing battery-as-a-service (BaaS) alongside outright purchase options as a first for the nation was a brilliant marketing move. The Windsor has successfully disrupted the mainstream family EV segment. Its lounge-like rear seating, massive panoramic glass roof, and advanced connected tech has made it a preferred choice for urban families looking to transition away from traditional ICE sedans and compact SUVs.

Buyers overwhelmingly gravitated toward the larger 52.9 kWh battery option, which accounted for 2,264 units (70.2%) of the total Windsor sales, while the remaining 960 units (29.8%) opted for the 38 kWh variant. Leading the charge at the trim level, the top-tier Essence Pro (paired with the 52.9 kWh pack) was the single highest seller moving 2,015 units because buyers readily paid a premium for maximum range and fully loaded tech, whereas lower trims like the entry Excite (70 units) and fleet-focused Commute (52 units) saw minimal traction due to private buyers prioritizing luxury features over cost-cutting.
2. MG Comet EV
The tiny Comet EV sold 806 units in August 2026, compared to 969 units in July, down 8.5% YoY from 881 units in August 2025, following a similar trend to the Windsor and something that is seen with almost all EVs this month.
The MG Comet EV continues to hold its ground as India’s only urban micro-EV solution, before the Vinfast VF3 arrives at least, catering specifically to city dwellers navigating congested metropolitan corridors. While monthly numbers saw a minor dip down to 806 units from July's 969 units, the Comet remains an unchallenged favorite for tight parking spaces, daily office commutes, and secondary urban household vehicles.

Running exclusively on the compact 17.3 kWh battery configuration, the mid-tier Excite trim led the family with 367 units (45.5%) by striking the ideal balance between everyday affordability and essential creature comforts, closely followed by the feature-packed Exclusive trim at 314 units (38.9%). Meanwhile, entry-level variants like the Executive (119 units) and niche special editions like Plush, Blackstorm, and Play, at 2 units each, lagged behind because buyers heavily favored the sweet spot of value-for-money convenience over bare-bones pricing or cosmetic add-ons.
3. MG ZS EV
The ZS EV is the only ICE-to-EV converted model on sale from MG and has sold 524 units in August compared to 632 units in July, up 35.1% YoY from 388 units in August 2025.
As one of India's earliest electric SUVs, the ZS EV continues to serve mature EV buyers who prioritize a conventional SUV experience and a proven track record. Registering 524 units in August, the ZS EV maintains steady demand among legacy EV adopters who value its dependable real-world driving range, robust build quality, and comprehensive ADAS suite.

Powered entirely by the 50.3 kWh battery architecture, the flagship Essence trim dominated demand with 247 units (47.1%) as buyers gravitated toward its comprehensive ADAS suite and panoramic sunroof, while the closely priced Exclusive Plus pulled 205 units (39.1%). In contrast, lower variants like the Executive (30 units) and legacy trims saw significantly lower preference as buyers in this segment view safety tech and premium interior features as non-negotiable prerequisites.
MG Select Premium Retail Lineup
MG's exclusive luxury and enthusiast channel, MG Select, consolidates the brand's ultra-premium offerings. Despite experiencing a MoM moderation in line with the broader market cool-down and just like the “standard” MG offerings, the division demonstrates tremendous year-on-year growth driven by expanding acceptance of high-end alternative formats.
August 2026 Sales: 208 combined units (compared to 327 units in July, down 36.4% MoM; up 285.2% YoY from 54 units in August 2025)
Model Breakdown:
- MG M9: Recorded 187 units in August (up 1,458.3% YoY from 12 units in August 2025, though down from 295 units in July), showcasing steady, specialized demand for MG’s premium electric people-mover in the executive segment. Given the pricing at which it is offered and the fact that it does not adorn a badge that Indians necessarily recognize for “luxury vehicles”, this is rather impressive.

- MG Cyberster: The halo electric sports car logged 21 units for the month, compared to 32 units in July and 42 units in August 2025, helping reinforce MG's brand positioning to move more upmarket and showcase technological prowess at the very top end of the market. The fact that it sells almost 1.5-2 times as much as it's 2-door convertible ICE competitors from established German luxury brands is really commendable.

The Upcoming MG Tomahawk
Looking ahead, MG Motor India is gearing up to disrupt additional volume segments with a more traditional SUV-like offering compared to the Windsor, with the highly anticipated MG Tomahawk EV and PHEV. Positioned as MG's entry in the mainstream family haulers segment, the Tomahawk represents MG's next strategic phase in capturing high-growth categories. It is to be seen if the Tomahawk EV will find its footing in the market while cutting into the sales of competitors or cannibalize MG's own sales from the Windsor or ZS EV. MG Motor India’s August 2026 retail performance highlights a maturing product ecosystem. While month-on-month volumes experienced a mild cool-down mirroring broader industry trends, the heavy preference for top-spec trims such as the Windsor Essence Pro and ZS EV Essence, proves that Indian EV buyers are increasingly willing to pay a premium for range, advanced features, and comfort, especially when offered in a good package at an appealing price point. With the MG Hector Tomahawk EV as well as PHEV to join the MG showrooms soon, it will be interesting to see if any cannibalism will occur within the model range or if MG can successfully eat into Tata, Mahindra or Vinfast's EV market share.
