Hector Tomahawk vs XEV 9S: Value, Space or Technology?

The Hector Tomahawk and Mahindra XEV 9S approach the seven-seat electric SUV market differently.

The Tomahawk prioritises space, comfort and accessible pricing. The XEV 9S focuses more heavily on performance, charging and technology. The price difference between them increases from ₹1.15 lakh at the entry level to ₹4.35 lakh in the top variants.

The better choice therefore depends on which variant and features matter to the buyer.

Entry variants: Two different priorities

The Hector Tomahawk Excite EV costs ₹19.50 lakh, making it ₹1.15 lakh cheaper than the XEV 9S Pack One Above.

The Tomahawk offers a larger 69.2 kWh battery, powered driver and co-driver seats, leatherette upholstery and 192 litres of boot space behind the third row.

The XEV 9S counters with higher motor output, faster DC charging, a 150-litre frunk, panoramic sunroof, triple-screen dashboard and automatic headlamps and wipers.

The claimed range difference is only four kilometres despite the different battery capacities. The Tomahawk makes a strong case through price, comfort and luggage space, while the XEV 9S uses its premium for performance, charging and cabin equipment.

Mid variants: Value versus additional technology

The Tomahawk Exclusive EV costs ₹21.998 lakh, while the XEV 9S Pack Two Above costs ₹25.05 lakh—a difference of ₹3.05 lakh.

The Tomahawk provides a powered co-driver seat, powered tailgate, ambient lighting and walk-away locking. Both SUVs offer a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a powered driver seat.

The XEV 9S adds greater motor output, a claimed 600 km range, 160 kW DC charging, L2 ADAS with 10 brochure-listed functions, adaptive cruise control and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system.

The Tomahawk remains the more affordable comfort-oriented package. The XEV 9S asks buyers to pay more for additional range, charging capability, driver assistance and audio equipment.

Top variants: A substantial price difference

The Hector Tomahawk Essence EV costs ₹23.50 lakh, compared with ₹27.85 lakh for the XEV 9S Pack Three.

The Tomahawk offers L2 ADAS with 11 brochure-listed functions, a powered tailgate and V2L, V2V and V2H capability. It also retains its price advantage of ₹4.35 lakh.

The XEV 9S offers more power, a larger battery, longer claimed range and faster charging. Its additional equipment includes L2+ ADAS with 19 listed functions, adaptive suspension, seven airbags, a triple-screen setup, a 150-litre frunk and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system.

The XEV 9S has stronger performance and technology specifications, but the Tomahawk delivers many of the essential comfort, safety and utility features at a considerably lower price.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the Hector Tomahawk if space, seating comfort, utility and a lower purchase price carry more weight. It is also marginally longer, has a longer wheelbase and provides a disclosed 192-litre boot with all three rows in use.

Choose the XEV 9S if higher performance, longer claimed range, faster charging and more advanced technology justify the additional expenditure.

Neither SUV wins every category. The Tomahawk’s strength is how much vehicle and equipment it offers for the money. The XEV 9S earns its premium through stronger electric hardware and additional technology.
