India EV Sales Hold Above 30,000 for Second Straight Month in July 2026

Electric passenger vehicle registrations in India settled at 32,737 units in July 2026, down 2% from June's 33,354, but the segment held above the 30,000-unit mark for a second consecutive month, according to Vahan data.

The broader trend remains upward. Cumulative EV sales for January-July 2026 stand at 1,83,479 units, up 85% from 99,189 in the same period last year. That figure is already at 95.8% of 2025's full-year total of 1,91,619 units, with five months still left in the year.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility remained the market leader in July with 13,630 units, a 39% share and growth of 102% year-on-year. Mahindra Electric Automobile followed with 7,710 units and a 23% share, its year-to-date sales up 164% over last year. JSW MG Motor India was third with 5,665 units and a 21% share, though its year-to-date growth of 17% trailed the two leaders by a wide margin.

Maruti Suzuki, selling EVs through a single model, crossed 1,500 units for a third straight month in July, retailing 1,596 units — though that was down 20.2% from June's 1,999.

Hyundai Motor India was the only mass-market passenger EV manufacturer to post a double-digit year-on-year decline, with July sales of 565 units down 21% from a year earlier, even as the month itself was up 51.1% over June.

Among the rest, VinFast retailed 1,480 units (up 2.2% month-on-month), BYD India 747 units (down 19.3%), Kia India 469 units (down 13.1%), BMW India 368 units (down 28.8%), Mercedes-Benz India 163 units (down 32.9%), Stellantis Automobiles 51 units (up 82.1%), Volvo Auto India 49 units (up 25.6%), Porsche AG 6 units (down 25%), and Audi AG 1 unit (down 100%). Jaguar Land Rover and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars each registered zero units in July.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, a recent entrant to the segment, retailed 123 units in July, up 251.4% month-on-month. Tesla India Motors and Energy retailed 115 units, up 202.6% — a figure revised upward on the Vahan portal from the 110 units ElecTree reported earlier this month when Tesla crossed the 100-unit mark for the first time.
