Kia Carens Clavis EV Owner Reports ICCU Failure

A Kia Carens Clavis EV owner has reported an ICCU failure in his car. Harsh Asher, a Mumbai-based owner of the year-old car, has shared these details exclusively with ElecTree.

What Happened

Harsh mentions he first noticed a problem on April 27, when his car charged at 1.5 kW instead of the 7.4 kW he expected at a Jio-bp AC charger in Goa. He wrote to Kia and had the car checked at their Goa service center, where an OBD scan reported no fault. The reduced charging speed persisted at home, at one point charging at 5 kW when the charger was set to 24A. After a trip to Nashik, the car stopped AC charging entirely, which is when Asher says he understood it was a complete failure.

According to Harsh, he emailed Kia in April and followed up multiple times, including raising the possibility of an ICCU fault during service visits, but says these went unanswered. When he eventually left the car at a service center, he says he was first told the fault wasn't the ICCU. After four days of checks, the service team confirmed it was, and Kia's technical team helped process the approval for a replacement part. A parts requisition for one ICCU assembly was raised by Kavish Automobiles Pvt. Ltd., the Kia dealer handling the car, on September 11, 2026, per a document shared with ElecTree.

Harsh says he was initially told the part would arrive from Chennai within a week. He was later informed the part is back-ordered, with none available in Delhi, Chennai, or anywhere else in India, and that it would need to be shipped in from outside the country with no confirmed timeline. He adds he has not been offered any compensation or a standby vehicle while the car remains without a working ICCU.

What Is an ICCU

The Integrated Charging Control Unit combines what would otherwise be separate AC-DC and DC-DC converter units into a single assembly. It manages the flow of power into an EV's high-voltage battery when charging, and it also keeps the car's 12V electronics, lighting, infotainment, control units, running off the main battery. A failing ICCU typically shows up first as reduced AC charging speed, since the unit can no longer convert power at its rated capacity, before progressing to a complete inability to charge. 

Hyundai and Kia which are sister companies have reported ICCU failure issues worldwide. This is the first reported issue in a Carens Clavis EV in India.

What Carens Clavis EV Owners Should Do

Owners who notice their Carens Clavis EV's AC charging speed drop well below normal, or stop charging altogether, should contact their nearest Kia service center immediately and specifically ask them to check the ICCU, rather than rely on a general OBD scan alone, since that is what delayed the diagnosis in Harsh's case by months. 

Kia has also offered lifetime (15 years) battery warranty to Clavis EV owners whose cars were registered before August 01, 2026 for ₹3400. This warranty will not cover the ICCU failure as this issue falls under vehicle warranty. So availing an extended vehicle warranty if available should be availed.
