August 15 is more than a national holiday for the Indian automotive industry - it is the date Mahindra consistently picks to stake its claim on the future. Sticking to the theme, big things are expected from Mahindra on the 80th Independence day of our nation.
Over the past several years, Mahindra has turned Independence Day into its marquee annual showcase. From the initial unveiling of its "Born Electric" concepts in 2022 to the radical Thar.e debut in 2023, August 15 has become the stage where Mahindra signals its zero-emission vision.
As the industry pivots away from quick petrol-to-EV conversions and toward ground-up electric architectures, this year's showcase promises near-production EV debuts, major cabin tech updates, and progress updates across its INGLO skateboard lineup.
Here is what to expect from Mahindra’s electric lineup this August 15, marking India's 80th Independence Day.
Near-Production Debut of the BE 07
While the sporty, coupe-styled BE 6 grabbed early headlines, the BE 07 is designed to capture the core family SUV market. Expected to debut in a near-production avatar on August 15, the BE 07 represents a practical evolution of Mahindra’s INGLO electric lineup.
- Family-Focused Packaging: Unlike the sloping roofline of the BE 6, the BE 07 adopts a traditional, boxy SUV silhouette. This tall roofline maximizes rear-seat headroom, improves entry for passengers, and expands boot capacity for family luggage.
- Expected Powertrain & Battery Specs: The BE 07 will likely offer 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh LFP battery options, delivering an estimated real-world range of 450 km to 530 km. It supports 175 kW DC fast-charging, enabling a 20% to 80% top-up in about 17 to 20 minutes.
- The INGLO Skateboard Advantage: Built on a dedicated electric platform, the flat floorbed eliminates central transmission humps. Pushing the wheels to the outer corners maximizes the interior wheelbase, creating legroom comparable to higher segment vehicles.
- Cabin Tech: Features a sweeping glass dashboard, Level-2+ ADAS calibrated for Indian traffic, an integrated panoramic roof, and flush door handles.
Many speculate that it will have frameless doors so that should be interesting too from a perceived premium-ness perspective.
The BE 07 overall is set to be positioned as the flagship BE product and has the potential to be the most tech-laden, premium, and expensive Mahindra up for sale.
Updated BE 6
The BE 6 is set to receive a update too with the exterior remaining more or less the same while the tech suite and interior might receive a minor overhaul to keep pace with rivals like the Tata Sierra.ev and its own larger stablemate, the XEV 9S.
- Full-Width Triple 12.3-Inch Display: The dual-screen setup is replaced by a triple 12.3-inch display wall spanning the dashboard. This adds an independent touch screen for the front passenger to stream videos or manage media without distracting the driver.
- Removal of the Driver "Halo" Divider: Mahindra has removed the physical plastic divider that separated the driver and passenger in early concepts to increase practicality, after receiving feedback from owner. This MIGHT carry over to the updated cabin. It creates an open center console with easier access to wireless charging pads and USB-C ports from the passenger side, although the “spine” or “halo” visually pleased many.
- Upgraded Appointments: The cabin is likely to receive updated soft-touch dashboard materials, revised ambient lighting, and a new black-and-tan dual-tone interior theme, to try and brighten up the otherwise rather dark cabin.
Testing Milestones for the Thar.e (EV Thar)
August 15 showcases routinely feature progress updates on long-term flagship concepts, and the Thar.e is set to be one of Mahindra's boldest ventures yet, so it would be apt to showcase the updates in its development cycle on Aug 15.

- Dual-Motor Torque Vectoring: It is expected that using an independent front and rear motor setup generating approximately 250 hp, the Thar.e will modulate torque to individual wheels in milliseconds, delivering instant traction on mud, rocks, and steep inclines without mechanical diff-locks.
Charging Capabilities & V2X Ecosystem
Beyond individual vehicle models, Mahindra is set to detail key software and hardware updates for its broader INGLO skateboard architecture. Here is what they are expected to unveil:
- Tropical Thermal Management: Details on liquid-cooling systems engineered to keep battery cell temperatures stable during 175 kW DC fast-charging in peak Indian summer heat, preventing long-term battery degradation.
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) & Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V): Demonstrations of bidirectional charging, allowing the vehicle’s main battery pack to power external electrical tools and camping gear (V2L) or transfer charge to another stranded EV (V2V).
International Launch Implications
Mahindra’s August 15 showcase is structured with global markets in mind. As the brand expands its presence beyond domestic borders, the INGLO-based electric portfolio is engineered to act as Mahindra's spearhead into key international markets across Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Latin America.
