Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has partnered with Tata Communications to bring in-built 5G connectivity to the Sierra.ev. The partnership will integrate Tata Communications' MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform with Tata Motors' N.IO software-defined vehicle platform.

The companies say the integration will support connected services including over-the-air (OTA) software updates, remote vehicle diagnostics, emergency call services, remote support and content streaming.

5G connectivity comes to the Sierra.ev

The Sierra.ev will get in-built 5G cellular connectivity through Tata Communications' MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform.

MOVE will be integrated with Tata Motors' N.IO platform, which is part of the company's software-defined vehicle architecture. The integration is designed to provide secure connectivity for digital services and connected vehicle applications.

OTA updates and remote diagnostics

One of the key applications of the connected platform will be over-the-air software updates. Tata Communications says the 5G connectivity will enable faster OTA updates for the Sierra.ev.

The platform will also support real-time remote vehicle diagnostics, along with emergency call services and remote support.

These capabilities are intended to keep the vehicle connected while allowing certain vehicle information and software-related functions to be managed remotely.

Tata Sierra.ev is set to feature in-built 5G connectivity through Tata Communications’ MOVE platform, enabling a range of connected vehicle services.

Content streaming and subscription packs

The 5G connection will also support content streaming inside the vehicle.

Tata Communications said Sierra.ev customers will have the option to purchase additional subscription packs. The company has not disclosed the details or pricing of these packs in the announcement.

MOVE and N.IO work together

The partnership brings together Tata Communications' MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform and Tata Motors' N.IO software-defined vehicle platform.

MOVE provides the connected vehicle technology, while N.IO forms part of Tata Motors' software-defined vehicle architecture.

According to Tata Communications, the integration is designed to provide a scalable platform for advanced connected vehicle capabilities and AI-enabled applications.

What the 5G connection brings

The addition of 5G gives the Sierra.ev a dedicated connectivity layer for several digital and vehicle-related services.

For customers, this includes OTA updates, content streaming, emergency call services, remote support and real-time vehicle diagnostics. Tata Communications also says the platform is designed to support personalised in-vehicle experiences and future connected applications.

The companies have not announced the pricing of the additional subscription packs or provided details of specific future features as part of this announcement.

A step towards software-defined vehicles

The partnership also supports Tata Motors' move towards software-defined vehicles, where software and connectivity form a larger part of the vehicle architecture.

By connecting N.IO with Tata Communications' MOVE platform, the Sierra.ev gets an architecture designed to support connected services and software updates as the vehicle's digital ecosystem develops.

Tata Communications says the platform is also designed to support AI-enabled applications, although the announcement does not specify individual AI features for the Sierra.ev.
