New Skoda EV Coming To India. What To Expect From The Made-For-India Electric SUV

If you've been waiting for a European EV that won't break the bank, Skoda has some big moves brewing.
Here is a breakdown of what to expect from Skoda's upcoming mass-market EV.

The Platform

To make a mass-market EV work in India, cost is everything. Skoda-VW originally evaluated bringing over their European MEB and MEB-Entry platforms. However, high import costs and rigid European specs made them far too expensive to compete with local players like Tata and Mahindra.
Instead, Skoda is localizing the CMP21 (China Main Platform) architecture.
This platform is about 30% less expensive. Developed to slash manufacturing costs, the CMP21 platform gives Skoda the flexibility to price its EVs aggressively.

It is important to note that the European Epiq isn't what's coming to India. Skoda confirmed the European Epiq EV won't be viable for India according to their evaluation. The upcoming version is being built ground-up for Indian road conditions, weather, and buyer demands.

What Will It Look Like?

Visually, the crossover is expected to take heavy design cues from Skoda's fresh "Modern Solid" design language. Instead of traditional vertical chrome grille slats, the front fascia will feature a sleek, closed-off "Tech-Deck panel" that seamlessly houses ADAS radar sensors and cameras. Framed by ultra-slim, T-shaped LED daytime running lights up top, the SUV will boast a high riding stance with flared wheel arches, aero wheels, functional roof rails, and a overall footprint similar in size to the Kushaq, or slightly larger. Towards the rear, expect a minimalist tailgate with backlit 'ŠKODA' lettering replacing the traditional brand badge.
 

Expected Specs

Because the CMP21 architecture is an EV-first platform, the engineering specs are promising:

• Rear-Wheel Drive Setup: CMP21 is designed natively as a rear-wheel-drive platform. That means better power delivery, smoother steering feedback, and instant electric acceleration with minimal wheelspin or understeer in the corners.
• Battery & Range: Battery pack sizes are expected to range from 45 kWh to 60 kWh, translating to a practical real-world driving range of 350 km to 450 km.
• Wheelbase & Cabin Space: Thanks to a long expected wheelbase of about 2,770 mm with short front and rear overhangs, the interior should feel as roomy as a segment-above ICE SUV.

What Car Is It Most Similar To?

To put its size and positioning into perspective:

• Footprint: Measuring between an expected 4.3 and 4.5 meters, it should sit right in the popular mid-size SUV territory.
• Main Rivals: Its direct competitors on Indian roads will highly likely be the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv.ev, and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
• Global Equivalent: Structurally, it shares space packaging and RWD characteristics with Volkswagen's global ID.4, but with a body tuned specifically for Indian buyers. It is however important to note that the ID.4 and the upcoming car have basically nothing similar mechanically.

Expect a Volkswagen Twin Down the Line

Following the brand's shared platform strategy like the Kushaq/Taigun and Slavia/Virtus, Volkswagen is expected to launch its own version off the same CMP21 architecture.

While the Skoda version will sport sharp, crystalline "Modern Solid" styling, the VW twin will feature rounded headlights, full-width front lighting bars, and a design closer to VW's global ID family.

Launch Timeline & Expected Price

The localized CMP21 electric SUV is slated to hit Indian showrooms around 2027 to 2028. Expect pricing to land in the ₹16 lakh to ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom) range, placing European safety and driving dynamics right in the heart of India's EV market.
