MG’s New 7-Seater EV Spotted Undisguised Ahead of August 26 Launch

MG’s upcoming seven-seater electric SUV has been spotted without camouflage in Pune, giving us the clearest look yet at the production version ahead of its August 26 launch. The SUV was seen during what appears to be a television commercial shoot, revealing its exterior much more clearly than MG’s earlier teasers.

This is the same ADAPT-based EV that we have covered earlier this month when MG released its first teaser. The latest sighting is a new development, however, because it gives us a much better idea of what the production SUV will actually look like.

The Design Is Finally Out

The SUV was spotted in an olive-green shade with a contrasting black roof. At the front, it gets slim LED lighting connected by a horizontal trim element, with the MG badge placed in the centre. The upper front section is closed off instead of using a conventional grille, giving it the clean front-end treatment commonly seen on electric vehicles.

The side profile looks substantial, with black cladding around the wheel arches, chrome detailing and a long roofline. The overall proportions also make its three-row family-SUV positioning clear.

MG has not yet released the complete exterior specifications or dimensions for the India-spec model, so the spy shot is best used as a look at the design rather than confirmation of exact measurements.

Is It the Hector Tomahawk?

MG has not yet formally announced the production name, but the SUV is increasingly being referred to as the Hector Tomahawk in automotive reports.

The name has also been linked to MG’s teaser campaign, which used imagery of the Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk fighter aircraft. Until MG officially confirms the badge, however, Hector Tomahawk remains a reported name rather than a confirmed one.

MG has already opened pre-bookings for the upcoming seven-seater at ₹21,000.

The First Production EV on MG’s ADAPT Platform

The upcoming SUV will be the first production model in India to use MG’s new ADAPT platform.

MG describes ADAPT as a multi-new-energy architecture that can support battery-electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender electric powertrains on a common platform. The company has said that one EV and one PHEV will debut on ADAPT by FY2026-27.

For now, the upcoming seven-seater is being introduced as a fully electric SUV. Its launch will therefore be the first real test of MG’s new platform strategy in the Indian market.

Range and Price Are Still Under Wraps

MG has not yet announced the final India-spec battery capacity, motor output, charging performance or certified range.

A test vehicle was recently spotted carrying a “500+ range” graphic, which has led to expectations of a range above 500km. However, that is not an official India-certified range figure and should not be presented as one.

Earlier reports have also suggested a battery of around 69kWh and a starting price around ₹18 lakh, but these figures remain unconfirmed by MG.

Price could be particularly important because the SUV will enter a market where the Mahindra XEV 9S is already on sale. If MG manages to combine three-row practicality with competitive range and pricing, it could give buyers another serious option in the larger electric-SUV segment.

The August 26 Launch Will Answer the Important Questions

The undisguised sighting has taken much of the mystery out of MG’s new SUV. We now have a clear idea of its exterior design and know that it will be the first production EV based on the company’s ADAPT architecture.

What we still need are the numbers that will determine how competitive it actually is: battery capacity, certified range, charging performance, features and final price.

MG’s teaser may have kept the SUV hidden for weeks, but the production car is now out in the open.

On August 26, MG will have to reveal whether what’s underneath the sheet metal is as interesting as the car itself.
