Mahindra Has Sold 1,823 BE 6 Special Editions. Now It Is Doubling Down
Mahindra appears to be turning special editions into a repeatable strategy for the BE 6, rather than treating them as one-off marketing exercises. The company has already experimented with two very different themes—the Batman Edition and the Formula E Edition—and is now preparing to add the BE 6 SPORTEQ while also bringing the Formula E Edition back in refreshed form.
Mahindra appears to have found another way of keeping the BE 6 in the conversation.
Exactly a year after introducing its first themed (Batman Edition) version of the electric SUV, the company is preparing the BE 6 SPORTEQ while also bringing the Formula E Edition back in a refreshed form. Read our deep dive on BE6 SPORTEQ here - link
On their own, these are two more additions to an expanding BE 6 range.
Look at what has happened since August 2025, though, and a much more interesting strategy starts to emerge.
Mahindra is increasingly using special editions as recurring product moments for the BE 6.
The Timeline
Mahindra unveiled the BE 6 Batman Edition on August 14, 2025. The initial plan was for a very limited production run of 999 units. Those 999 units were booked almost immediately.

Mahindra then introduced the BE 6 Formula E Edition in November 2025, leveraging its electric-motorsport connection to create a second, distinct identity for the BE 6.

The Batman story, however, did not end with the first batch. On March 6, 2026, Mahindra reopened the Batman Edition for another 999 customers due to strong interest. That decision triggered criticism from some of the first 999 buyers, who had purchased the vehicle partly based on its exclusivity. Mahindra subsequently offered a buyback option to the original 999 customers. That episode highlighted one of the key risks of limited editions: once scarcity becomes part of the product proposition, increasing supply can undermine what early buyers thought they were purchasing.
Now Mahindra is moving into the next phase with the SPORTEQ and a refreshed Formula E Edition.
Batman Clearly Worked Better
Registration data shows just how different the response to Mahindra's first two special editions has been.
The Batman Edition has reached 1,460 registrations, compared with just 363 for Formula E. Batman has therefore registered about four times as many units and accounts for roughly 80% of BE 6 special-edition registrations so far.
That makes Batman the clear proof of concept. Mahindra demonstrated that buyers would pay attention to a BE 6 with a distinctive identity layered on top of the standard product.
But Formula E has so far generated a much more modest response. Formula E edition brought a change of look + the special edition

Why The Formula E Relaunch and SPORTEQ Launch Matter
That is also why Mahindra's decision to bring Formula E back is worth watching. Rather than abandoning the lower-volume edition, the company is giving it another chance.
If registrations improve materially after the relaunch, Mahindra will have shown that a special edition can itself be refreshed and repositioned rather than treated as a one-off experiment.
SPORTEQ presents a different test.
Unlike Batman, it does not depend on an external entertainment franchise. If it performs strongly, Mahindra could prove that it can generate similar excitement using the BE 6's own sporty identity.

A New Lifecycle Strategy?
The bigger picture is becoming clearer. Manufacturers traditionally create fresh demand through new variants, model-year updates and facelifts, but Mahindra appears to be adding another lever. Batman created one sales and marketing moment, Formula E created another, and SPORTEQ creates yet another, while the Formula E relaunch gives an existing edition a second life.
The underlying BE 6 does not need to change each time dramatically; what changes is the reason for buyers to look at it again. So far, 1,823 BE 6 special editions have been registered. Batman proved that the strategy can work, Formula E showed that not every theme will perform equally well, and the Batman relaunch demonstrated that scarcity must be managed carefully. SPORTEQ and the Formula E relaunch will now reveal whether Mahindra can turn these experiments into a repeatable product strategy for the BE 6.
