JSW Combat - Everything to Know About the Upcoming Plug-In Hybrid SUV
JSW Motors is entering the Indian passenger vehicle market with a standalone offensive. Spearheading this charge is the JSW Combat, a powerful plug-in hybrid SUV based on the Jetour T2.
The Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group is all set to cement its footprint as a heavyweight force in India's passenger vehicle space. Beyond its existing joint venture with SAIC Motor in JSW MG Motor India and an MoU signed with the Volkswagen Group to explore joint platform and EV manufacturing under a 51:49 joint venture, the conglomerate is expanding its individual product offensive. Spearheading this move is a rugged lifestyle SUV likely to be named the JSW Combat, as originally brought to light via exclusive breaking reports from the Autocar India website and article .
With JSW's very own MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV being unveiled last month and now the standalone JSW Combat PHEV about to arrive, the Indian market is moving full-swing into the Plugin-Hybrid domain.
The Chery Roots
The JSW Combat is built on the structural foundation of the globally acclaimed Chery Jetour T2. Jetour is a sub-brand of the Chinese-based automaker Chery. It utilizes a monocoque platform dubbed the Kunlun architecture which is shared by other models in the Jetour range, and is designed to balance structural rigidity with modern driving dynamics. By adapting the internationally proven Jetour T2 blueprint, JSW Motors has secured a ready-to-roll architecture that bypasses years of ground-up development, allowing the brand to fast-track its entry into India's competitive lifestyle SUV segment.

It is also interesting to note that Chery had previously tried to enter the Indian market around the Covid-era but could not go through with it due to heavy government policies and restrictions against chinese brands. Entering the market via an established Indian conglomerate like JSW however, seems to bypass these issues.
Exterior Styling
Visually, the Combat is expected to stay more or less the same as the global T2 and leans heavily into an boxy, rugged lifestyle aesthetic reminiscent of global off-roaders.
Front end: It features an upright nose, squarish LED headlamps, aggressive body cladding, and a prominent grille which could switch out the Jetour lettering for JSW lettering. The ORVMs are large and boxy too with the protruding side cladding increasing the visual profile up-front.

Rear and Side view: The side profile is defined by sharp and boxy creases and squared-off wheel arches housing large 20-inch alloy wheels. At the back, it sports a signature tailgate-mounted spare wheel cover and vertical tail lamps, which you won't be wrong for calling “Defender-inspired”.

Interior design and Cabin Technology
Inside, the cabin has a simple yet high-tech modern luxury-Esq design.

The dashboard is anchored by a massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system bundled with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, working alongside a separate 10.6-inch digital instrument cluster.
The central spine up-front will be wide and rugged feeling housing a suite of controls as well as a knobby, almost aircraft-style gear selector, along with a dial to select driving modes or control the infotainment with.
The use of shiny, metal-looking materials is prominent throughout the cabin.
Upper trims are expected to feature a panoramic glass sunroof, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, custom ambient lighting, and an advanced 540-degree camera suite that provides transparent underbody views for tricky terrain. Safety is reinforced by a full suite of ADAS capabilities, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
Expected Powertrain
The Combat will likely introduce a sophisticated Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) architecture to the market, just like the MG Hector Tomahawk did, but in a different segment.
Internationally, this system marries a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors for AWD or a single motor for FWD, and an 18.4 kWh LFP battery pack.
Power flows through a dedicated 3-speed hybrid transmission (DHT), delivering a combined output of roughly 381 hp and 610 Nm of torque in the Front-wheel-drive setup. It provides an electric-only driving range of up to 90 km (NEDC cycle), stretching to nearly 1,200 km total range, with DC fast-charging supporting a 30 to 80 percent top-up in about 27 minutes.
Market Positioning
Slated for a rollout during the festive season with local assembly anchored out of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, the Combat is expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag between ₹30 lakh and ₹50 lakh. This positions it as a unique lifestyle alternative to traditional monocoque offerings such as the Honda ZR-V strong hybrid or the Citroen C5 Aircross and maybe even heavy-duty utility vehicles in the Toyota Fortuner or MG Gloster segment if introduced with a 4WD variant.

Trademarks and Future Outlook
The "Combat" nameplate is only the opening salvo for JSW Motors. Corporate filings reveal a pipeline of secured vehicle trademarks including “Adventura”, “Cadet”, “Urbanique”, “Dominor”, “Sereno”, and “Eleveindicating”, showcasing that the company is actively preparing a multi-segment rollout to cement its place in India's electrified automotive future.
It will also be interesting to see if the Indian customer will accept these chinese-based offerings and if JSW has any plans of starting R&D for their own ground-up vehicles in the future.
