What Hyundai said
The press release was mainly about Hyundai's charging network, but it included a short question-and-answer section at the end. One question asked about Hyundai's EV plans for India. The company's answer: "HMIL is planning to enter mass market EV segment by introducing an SUV EV within this financial year."
This is the clearest confirmation yet of the car's timeline.
Not the first time Hyundai mentioned this car
Hyundai first showed this SUV, covered under a sheet, at its Investor Day in Mumbai in October 2025. At the time, the company called it its first dedicated EV platform built for India, rather than an imported model. Hyundai shared some details about it then:

The myHyundai app is open to EV owners of any brand, not just Hyundai. It shows charging points within an average of 25 km, including along major highways such as Delhi-Gurugram-Jaipur, Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru, Mumbai-Ratnagiri-Goa, Chennai-Vellore-Bengaluru, and Hyderabad-Kurnool-Bengaluru.
Why this matters
Hyundai currently sells only two EVs in India: the Creta Electric and the imported Ioniq 5. Neither competes directly in the popular mid-range SUV segment, where rivals like Tata and Mahindra already sell electric SUVs in large numbers.
This new SUV is Hyundai's attempt to enter that segment. What isn't yet known is the price, which will decide whether it can compete with rivals like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
