Tata’s EV portfolio more than doubled its year-earlier volume in September 2026, but the headline growth came from a concentrated group of models.

Punch EV, Nexon EV and Sierra EV added 2,236 registrations over August. That was enough to offset weaker volumes for Tiago EV, Harrier EV, Curvv EV and Xpres-T EV, lifting Tata’s total by 1,106 units month on month.

The mix also shows how decisively Tata’s electric business has moved towards SUVs. Five SUV and crossover nameplates contributed 12,921 registrations, or nearly 87% of the company’s September EV volume.

Let's take a look at Tata EV model-wise performance

Punch EV did most of the heavy lifting

Punch EV led Tata’s electric portfolio with 4,666 registrations, accounting for 31% of September volume. It added 1,095 units over August and 3,432 units over September 2025. The increase was heavily concentrated in the Empowered+S variant, which jumped from 1,918 to 3,224 registrations and supplied 69% of Punch EV volume. Smart+ nearly doubled to 611 units, while Adventure and Empowered declined.

Battery preference was even more concentrated: the 40 kWh version generated 4,627 registrations, representing more than 99% of the model total.

Nexon EV grew from an established base

Nexon EV reached 3,469 registrations, up 22% month on month and 43% year on year.

Volume spread more evenly across the range. Fearless and Creative finished almost level at 1,037 and 1,033 units, while Empowered delivered the largest monthly increase, climbing from 486 to 728 units. Empowered+A added another 666 registrations.

Punch EV and Nexon EV together contributed 8,135 registrations, equal to 55% of Tata’s electric volume. Nearly every Nexon EV registration came from the 45 kWh version, which accounted for 3,453 units.

Sierra EV was the fastest monthly riser

Sierra EV rose 35% to 1,951 registrations, the fastest monthly gain in Tata’s line-up. With no September 2025 base, its entire volume represents a new contribution to the portfolio.

Empowered A led with 597 units. Adventure more than doubled to 394, while Empowered climbed to 319. Empowered AWD A was the exception, declining from 435 to 386 units. Pure S, Adventure A, and Pure added 172, 45, and 38 units respectively. AWD accounted for 386 out of the 1,951 registrations. Sierra AWD is outselling Harrier AWD.

Sierra also carried a broader battery mix than Punch or Nexon: the 75 kWh version contributed 1,498 registrations, and the 63 kWh version added 445.

Tiago EV lost momentum in September

Tiago EV fell 34% month-on-month to 1,601 registrations, the steepest September decline in Tata’s portfolio. Creative+ and Pure+ accounted for almost the entire drop, losing a combined 802 units from August.

The dominant 24 kWh version fell from 2,378 to 1,545 registrations. Even after the monthly correction, Tiago EV remained 25% ahead of September 2025, suggesting weaker near-term momentum rather than an outright annual contraction. Only 56 customers bought the smaller 19 kWh battery variant

Harrier EV declined both MoM and YoY

Harrier EV registered 1,591 units, down 13% from August and 5% from a year earlier. It was the only meaningful Tata EV model to decline on both MoM and YoY.

Fearless+ remained the largest variant with 821 registrations, but the weakness extended across Empowered, Adventure S and Empowered AWD. Fearless+ AWD and Adventure accounted for 53 and 33 registrations, respectively. Both battery options softened: the 75 kWh version recorded 1,238 units and the 65 kWh version delivered 353.

AWD accounted for 233 out of the 1591 registrations.

Harrier EV registered 1,591 units and was Tata’s only major EV model to decline on both monthly and annual comparisons.

Curvv EV was flat monthly but much stronger annually

Curvv EV recorded 1,244 registrations, down just 1% from August. The monthly result was nearly flat, but its annual performance told a different story: volume rose 184% year on year.

Accomplished X remained the clear lead variant with 755 registrations, followed by Empowered X at 332 and Empowered X Dark at 112. The 55 kWh version accounted for 1,221 registrations, or 98% of the model total.

Xpres-T EV remained a small fleet-led contributor

Xpres-T EV registered 369 units, down 17% from August but up 19% year on year. The 2.0 XM variant generated 364 registrations, while the 32 kWh configuration accounted for 361.

At only 2.5% of Tata’s September electric volume, Xpres-T had limited influence on the company’s overall result.

Tata’s growth engines are now clear

September’s result was powered by three distinct contributors. Punch EV delivered the most volume and the largest annual addition. Nexon EV continued to expand from a sizeable base. Sierra EV led the portfolio’s monthly growth.

Curvv EV strengthened the annual story despite a flat month. Tiago EV and Xpres-T EV remained ahead year on year but lost momentum in September. Harrier EV was the portfolio’s only material model to decline on both time comparisons.

Tata has broadened its EV range, and now EVs account for 25% of total Tata registrations. Sustaining the current pace will depend on Punch, Nexon and Sierra holding their momentum while Tiago and Harrier stabilise. Upcoming Safari EV should also add volumes.
