Renault Duster Strong Hybrid Set for October 17 India Launch

Renault is set to expand the Duster range with a strong-hybrid powertrain, with the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 reported to launch in India on October 17, 2026. The hybrid will become the third powertrain option for the SUV, alongside the existing 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines.

Renault had previously confirmed the hybrid powertrain for the India-spec Duster, including its 1.8-litre petrol engine, 1.4 kWh battery and two-motor setup. The company has positioned the system as its strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain.

1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors

Renault India's technical information lists the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 with a 1.8-litre petrol engine, 1.4 kWh battery pack and an 8-speed DHT with two motors.

*The October 17 launch date has been reported by automotive publications citing Renault's latest communication. Renault India's currently published product information continues to describe the hybrid's availability as around Diwali 2026.

Renault's earlier launch material says the E-Tech system can provide up to 80% EV mode in city driving conditions. This is a manufacturer claim; actual electric operation will vary with driving conditions and other factors.

The third powertrain in the Duster range

The Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 will join the two turbo-petrol options already listed by Renault India.

Renault's current technical page confirms the TCe 100's 100 PS and 166 Nm output, while the TCe 160 produces 163 PS and 280 Nm. The company lists a 6-speed manual for the TCe 100 and both 6-speed manual and 6-speed DCT options for the TCe 160.

How Renault's hybrid system works

The Duster's E-Tech system combines a petrol engine, battery and two electric motors. Renault's own material describes the system as a strong hybrid and says it can operate in EV mode under suitable city-driving conditions.

The Duster Strong Hybrid is not a plug-in hybrid. Its battery forms part of the vehicle's hybrid system rather than requiring an external charging connection.

This gives the hybrid a different operating model from a battery-electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid, while allowing electric propulsion to be used during suitable driving conditions.

Renault had announced the hybrid earlier

The hybrid powertrain is not a newly announced specification. Renault confirmed it when it unveiled the new Duster in January 2026, describing the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 as a 1.8-litre engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery. The company also claimed up to 80% EV mode in city-driving conditions.

When Renault launched the petrol Duster in March, it said the planned 2026 allocation of the hybrid had already been fully booked, with availability planned around Diwali.

The October launch announcement therefore represents the next step toward the market introduction of a powertrain Renault had already confirmed earlier in the year.

Price to be announced

Renault has not yet published the final price of the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160. Its current India website lists the Duster range from ₹10.49 lakh ex-showroom, but that starting price applies to the existing petrol range and should not be used as an estimate for the hybrid.

The hybrid's final pricing and variant details are expected to be announced closer to its market introduction.

A new-energy option for the Duster

The Duster Strong Hybrid adds a new type of powertrain to Renault India's lineup at a time when India's passenger-vehicle market is expanding beyond conventional petrol and diesel technologies.
