As India's automotive sector accelerates its transition toward sustainable mobility, adapting today's mechanical engineering while bridging the gap between theoretical classroom study and practical shop-floor engineering remains a critical hurdle. To try tackle this, Medicaps University in Indore has officially partnered with Decibels Lab to inaugurate a state-of-the-art 2,500 sq. ft. Electric Vehicle Center of Excellence on September 15, 2026.

Bridging Academia and EV Engineering

The newly opened Centre is structured to move away from purely theoretical curriculums, providing students, faculty, and researchers with direct access to advanced systems across core electric vehicle domains.

  • Core Focus Areas: The facility integrates dedicated capabilities spanning battery technology, Battery Management Systems (BMS), cell characterisation, EV powertrains, motor testing, vehicle validation, and automotive CAN communication.
  • Advanced Infrastructure: Key hardware deployed within the 2,500 sq. ft. space includes a 2-wheeler chassis dynamometer, an advanced four-quadrant motor test bench, a battery pack manufacturing platform, a cell testing and characterisation lab, a multi-cell BMS development and testing lab, and automotive CAN communication units.

Collaborative Blueprint

The partnership brings together Medicaps University's academic foundation and Decibels Lab's specialized expertise in EV laboratory setup, engineering research, and technical skill development. Rather than treating electric mobility as a purely textbook subject, the initiative gives students direct exposure to road-load simulation, motor performance evaluation, and diagnostic validation. This framework ensures that academic programs remain closely aligned with the actual technical competencies demanded by modern automotive and clean-energy companies.

Industry Collaboration and Leadership Presence

The inauguration drew prominent figures from across the automotive, energy, and academic landscapes. Key industry leaders in attendance included Shri Rajesh Jain, Vice President of Eicher Trucks and Buses, and Shri Ashish Kumar Singh, Deputy General Manager and Retail Regional Head at HPCL Indore.

Representing the institutional side were Medicaps University Chancellor Shri R.C. Mittal, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dilip K. Patnaik, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Birajashis Pattnaik, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) P. Siluvainathan, and Rajendra Kumar Shukla, Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering.
Decibels Lab was represented by Founder & CEO Suraj S. D. and Co-Founder Naveen C. S. .

Engineers Being Industry-Ready

With the EV sector expanding rapidly across manufacturing, R&D, and infrastructure, institutions face an ongoing demand to produce engineers who understand live diagnostic software, thermal management, and high-voltage architectures from day one.

The Medicaps-Decibels collaboration is positioned to tackle this exact shortfall by facilitating student projects, faculty upskilling, applied research, and industry-oriented problem-solving. By embedding heavy-duty testing apparatus directly into an academic environment, the initiative marks a notable step forward in ensuring India's academic institutions can adequately feed the talent pipeline for the future electric mobility ecosystem.
