The Mahindra XEV 9S has found strong footing since its launch in February 2026. Unlike the coupe-styled BE 6 and XEV 9e — both launched in early 2025 on Mahindra's INGLO electric vehicle platform — the XEV 9S carries a more conventional SUV silhouette, and arrived into a market where INGLO had already built a track record with Mahindra's early EV buyers. That combination of a familiar design and a platform buyers had already grown to trust appears to have worked in its favor. In its first five months on sale, the XEV 9S has retailed 13,476 units.

Variant and Battery Mix

Buyers prefer the 79 kWh battery pack of XEV 9S with Pack 3 being the preferred variant.

The bigger of the two available battery packs is doing the heavy lifting. Of the 13,476 units sold, 11,986 — about 89% — were the 79kWh battery, against 1,304 units of the 70kWh pack and 186 units of the 59kWh pack.

That preference holds even where buyers have a direct choice. The 70kWh option is only available on the Pack Two Above trim, where it sits alongside a 79kWh option for a ₹1 lakh premium. Even there, 1,152 of 2,456 Pack Two Above buyers — nearly 47% — paid the extra amount for the bigger battery.

Trim-wise, the two top-end variants, Pack Three and Pack Three Above — both offered only with the 79kWh battery — together accounted for 10,565 units, or roughly 78% of everything sold. The entry-level Pack One Above variant sold 455 units in total, split between 186 units of the 59kWh battery and 269 units of the 79kWh battery.

State-wise Distribution

Maharashtra leads XEV 9S sales by a wide margin, accounting for 2,336 units — around 17.3% of the total, and nearly double the next state. Delhi (1,407 units) and Telangana (1,375 units) follow closely behind, with Gujarat (1,199) and Uttar Pradesh (1,156) completing the top five. Together, these five states account for roughly 55.5% of all XEV 9S retail sales, while the top ten states account for close to 85.5% of the total.
