Kia EV Registrations More Than Double as Syros EV Takes 63 Percent Share
Kia’s electric registrations more than doubled year on year in September 2026, driven by the new Syros EV. The model recorded 806 units and immediately captured 63% of Kia’s EV volume.
Kia registered 1,271 electric vehicles in September 2026, compared with 783 in August and 598 a year earlier. That translates to 62% month-on-month growth and a 113% year-on-year increase. The headline is strong, but the composition is even more revealing: the newly introduced Syros EV supplied almost two-thirds of the month's volume.
The Syros EV added 527 registrations over August, while Kia's total EV portfolio expanded by 488. In other words, the Syros EV generated more than the entire net monthly increase, offsetting lower volumes from the Carens Clavis EV and EV6.
Syros EV becomes the Kia volume engine
The Syros EV recorded 806 registrations, up from 279 in August, a 189% monthly increase. It accounted for 63% of Kia's September EV registrations, immediately becoming the company's largest electric nameplate.
The entry HTK variant led with 301 registrations, or 37% of Syros EV volume. HTX+ followed at 139, with X-Line at 128, HTK+ at 123 and HTX at 115. All five variants grew sequentially, showing that the increase was spread across the range rather than concentrated in one isolated configuration.
Battery demand was relatively balanced. The 42 kWh version contributed 429 registrations, while the 51.4 kWh version added 377. Their respective shares were 53% and 47%, giving the Syros EV a broad mix across both available battery options.

Carens Clavis EV loses ground
The Carens Clavis EV registered 462 units, down 8% from August and 15% from September 2025. It remained Kia's second-largest EV, but its performance moved in the opposite direction to the headline portfolio growth.
The HTK+ 7 Seater remained the leading configuration at 222 registrations, although it declined 18% month-on-month. HTX 7 Seater was the main exception, rising 27% to 107 units. HTX+ 7 Seater recorded 47, HTX (E) 7 Seater 30, HTM 7 Seater 21, and GTX+ 7 Seater 18.
The battery split also shifted. The 42 kWh version recorded 278 units, down 18% MoM but 70% above last year. The 51.4 kWh version rose 13% MoM to 184, yet remained 51% below its September 2025 level. The smaller battery therefore supplied 60% of current Carens Clavis EV volume, compared with about 30% a year earlier.

EV6 and EV9 remain peripheral
The EV6 contributed only two registrations, versus three in August and 56 a year earlier. The EV9 added a single registration. Together, the two premium models represented less than 1% of Kia's September electric volume, leaving the portfolio overwhelmingly dependent on the Syros EV and Carens Clavis EV.

Battery mix broadens with the Syros EV
Across Kia's portfolio, 42 kWh models contributed 707 registrations, or 56% of the total, while 51.4 kWh models supplied 561, or 44%. The two larger-battery premium vehicles added only three registrations combined.
The 42 kWh category grew 53% month on month and 331% year on year. The 51.4 kWh category increased 76% sequentially and 48% annually. Those gains largely reflect the Syros EV's arrival rather than a uniform improvement across Kia's existing models.
What the September data shows
Kia's September result marks a major expansion in electric reach, but growth is highly concentrated in the Syros EV. The new model has quickly become the portfolio anchor, while the Carens Clavis EV is losing momentum and the premium EV6 and EV9 remain marginal.
The next test is whether the Syros EV can sustain its launch momentum while the Carens Clavis EV stabilises. For now, Kia's EV growth story is clear: one new high-volume model has transformed the scale and composition of the company's electric registrations.
