India EV Sales August 2026: Top 10 Models and OEM Breakdown

We covered the top three selling 4-wheeler EV models in India for August, in our earlier report. Now let's take a look at the top 10 and the OEM-wise performance. India's four-wheeler EV market recorded 31,379 retail units in August 2026, down 9.3% from July's 34,603. We notice a decline in retail sales across all top models and how VinFast’s total sales are not what they seem.

Top 10 Models

Mahindra's XEV 9S again led with 3,743 units, down 7.4% from July's 4,044. It made up 56.64% of Mahindra's total EV sales in August. Pack Two Above remained its best-selling variant at 1,277 units, 34.1% of the model's total.

Tata's Punch EV followed with 3,468 units (of which 38 were previous-generation), down 12.9% from 3,983. Empowered+ S continued as its best-selling variant, at 1,843 units, 53.7% of the model's 3,430 new-generation registrations.

MG's Windsor came in third at 3,224 units, down 19.8% from 4,019, the steepest decline among the top three. Essence Pro remained the best-selling variant, at 2,015 units, 62.5% of Windsor's August volume.

Tata's Nexon EV sold 2,769 units, down 19.3% from 3,430. Creative was the best-selling variant at 880 units, 32% of the model's total.

Tata's Tiago EV rounded out the top five with 2,342 units, down a comparatively mild 5.1% from 2,469. Creative+ remained the dominant variant at 1,752 units, 74.8% of the model's total.

The rest of the top 10:

• Harrier EV — 1,786 units, down 14.2%
• XEV 9e — 1,675 units, down 16.5%
• e-Vitara — 1,443 units, down 13.5%
• Sierra EV — 1,405 units, up 104.2% (its growth reflects an ongoing launch ramp-up rather than a genuine demand recovery, since August was only its first full month of retail sales)
• Curvv EV — 1,217 units, down 6.7%

Top Manufacturers

Tata led with 13,433 units, down 6.7% from 14,405. Punch EV was its best-selling model, at 3,468 units.

Mahindra followed with 6,608 units, down 18.5% from 8,112, driven by its best-selling model XEV 9S at 3,743 units.

MG came in third at 4,762 units, down 20% from 5,953, the steepest decline among the top five OEMs. Windsor remained its best-selling model at 3,224 units.

VinFast's numbers need a caveat. The brand posted 2,221 units, up 44.8% from July's 1,534, but 1,452 of those units, 65.4% of the total, are self-registered Limo Green cabs rather than organic retail sales. Excluding Limo Green, VinFast actually sold 769 units in August against 946 in July, down 18.7%, in line with the broader market decline rather than the headline growth number. VF7 was the brand's genuine best-selling model at 416 units.

Maruti Suzuki rounded out the top five with 1,443 units, down 13.5% from 1,669. Since Maruti sells only the e-Vitara in the EV space, that single model accounts for the entire total.
