Tata Punch EV 40 Sales Jump 151% YoY as Facelift Revives the Nameplate
The Tata Punch EV's February 2026 update with 40 kWh battery pack brought more range, more power, faster charging and a lower price than the model it replaced — and June 2026 retail sales reveal the revival Punch.
The Tata Punch EV has found a second wind. Launched on 20 February 2026 as a comprehensive update to the outgoing model, the Punch EV 40 brings more range, more power, dramatically faster charging, more onboard technology, and a simpler variant lineup — all at a lower starting price than the car it replaced. The sales numbers since suggest the update has landed exactly as intended.
Technical Advancements

The outgoing Punch EV was offered with a 25kWh battery (315km range, 60kW/80.46bhp) or a 35kWh Long Range option (421km, 90kW/120.69bhp), using LFP cells in a cylindrical format. DC fast charging took 56 minutes for a 10-80% charge.
The Punch EV 40 steps both battery options up — 30kWh (375km range, 65kW/87bhp) and 40kWh (464km, 95kW/127.4bhp) — while switching to prismatic LFP cells and Tata's 6-in-1 integrated powertrain architecture. DC fast charging time has nearly halved, to around 26 minutes for a 20-80% charge. The car also gets a 15-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty, dual 10.25-inch screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, a blind spot view monitor, and ventilated front seats — none of which were available on the outgoing model.
Tata has also simplified the lineup considerably, going from 11 variants on the old Punch EV down to 6 on the Punch EV 40. Despite the added range, power, charging speed and equipment, the Punch EV 40 is priced from ₹9.69 lakh to ₹12.59 lakh — lower at both ends than the outgoing car's ₹9.99 lakh to ₹13.79 lakh.
Sales Performance

The upgrade shows clearly in the numbers. The outgoing Punch EV sold 1,565 units in June 2025. The Punch EV 40 sold 3,925 units in June 2026 — a 151% year-on-year increase for what is nominally the same nameplate. Month-on-month, sales grew from 3,429 units in May to 3,925 in June, up 14%.
All of June's retail sales were of the 40kWh battery — the 30kWh variants have yet to record a sale. Within that, buyers are clearly gravitating toward the fully-loaded top trim: the Empowered+ S accounted for 2,482 units, or about 63% of the month's total. Smart+ followed at 844 units (21%), Adventure at 361 units (9%), and Empowered at 238 units (6%). Adventure was the only trim to decline month-on-month, falling 11.5% from 408 units in May, while every other trim grew — Empowered+ S up 19%, Smart+ up 16%, and Empowered up 12%.
