Dr. Saurabh Sharma from Faridabad owns both an MG Windsor EV and a Mercedes CLA 250+ AMG Line. As someone who has experienced both ends of the Indian EV market, his perspective on the CLA carries weight. He exclusively shares his initial ownership thoughts with ElecTree.

The Buying Decision

Before finalizing the CLA, Dr. Saurabh visited the Tesla showroom. He came back with a clear answer. "We chose Mercedes for its amazing interiors, awesome range and brand value," he says. "The CLA's interior feels like a premium event."

The interior was the decisive factor. Coming from the Windsor, he knew what a minimalist cabin felt like — but the CLA offered something different. The combination of the MBUX Superscreen, 64-colour ambient lighting and premium materials created an experience that the Model Y L's minimalist cabin could not match for him personally. In April, we compared the CLA 250+ and the Model Y L in detail.

First Impressions: The Cabin

The MBUX system left an immediate impression. "MBUX is too good — new generation stuff. Response is super fast and awesome," he says. The system responds instantly and handles conversational commands naturally through its MB.OS integration.

One disappointment in an otherwise premium experience — certain features including the massage function are locked behind additional payment. "The massage function should be free. Some features that should be standard are paid," he notes. For a car at this price point, he feels these should be included as standard.

On the Road: Drive Modes and ADAS

Dr. Saurabh has settled into a clear routine with the drive modes. Eco is his preferred choice for city driving — smoother, more efficient and easier on range. He has tried Sport mode and found it engaging and responsive. One-pedal driving has become a favourite in city conditions.

The car's aerodynamic profile — with a drag coefficient of 0.21 — makes it feel planted and stable at triple digit speeds. The low-slung silhouette lowers the centre of gravity, resulting in minimal body roll through corners. NVH levels are exceptional — the cabin remains library-quiet at highway speeds. The suspension is tuned on the firmer side, which keeps the car settled but means sharper potholes are felt through the 19-inch wheels.

ADAS works well with no complaints in daily use.

Real World Range and Efficiency

This is where the CLA genuinely impresses. Dr. Saurabh's daily average is around 25 km — and the car's projected range is consistently close to the WLTP figure of 792 km.

His trip data from the Mercedes app tells the full story. On a 228.8 km drive averaging 54 km/h with AC running, he achieved an efficiency of 9.3 km/kWh — consuming only 28% of the battery. Starting from approximately 94% SoC, he arrived with 66% remaining. At this efficiency the car projects a full-charge range of approximately 820 km in real world conditions.

The app's own range estimate at 94% SoC showed 863 km — and projected 919 km at 100%. These are the car's own calculations based on actual driving efficiency, not manufacturer figures.

"The range is the USP of this car," he says. "It effectively ends range anxiety."

Charging Experience

At home, Dr. Saurabh uses the 22 kW Mercedes wall box supplied with the car. The car currently charges at 11 kW on this setup.

It is worth noting here that Mercedes India's official press release dated 10 March 2026 stated the wall box has a charging power of up to 22 kW. The Mercedes website currently specifies the on-board AC charger as up to 11 kW. The wall box hardware supports 22 kW but the car's on-board charger is rated at 11 kW — meaning the wall box operates at half its rated capacity on the CLA. Dr. Saurabh confirmed this directly from his delivery experience.

For DC fast charging, he used the 180 kW charger at the Mercedes showroom in Faridabad. The CLA which has 320kW DC charge capability, accepted the full 180 kW without any issue — the 800V architecture working exactly as intended. At 180 kW, the car adds approximately 280 km of range in 10 minutes. The charging session screenshot (image attached above with efficiency) shows the car still pulling 50 kW at 94% SoC — an impressive charging curve that maintains high speed close to full charge. Most EVs taper significantly above 80%.

Ground Clearance

The one area where Dr. Saurabh wishes the car were different. Large speed breakers are occasionally an issue given the CLA's 160 mm ground clearance. Mercedes proactively reached out to him about this and communicated that a suspension coil solution is being looked into for such situations. Parking ramps have not been a problem.

Who Should Buy It

Dr. Saurabh recommends the CLA 250+ for three specific types of buyers.

Those with range anxiety — the real world efficiency puts projected range close to or beyond the 792 km WLTP figure, effectively making daily charging unnecessary for most users.

Road trippers — the 800V architecture and 180 kW DC charging compatibility mean a meaningful range addition in a short charging stop. "This makes it one of the few EVs that truly rivals the convenience of a petrol car on the highway," he says.

Interior-focused buyers — "If you find other EV interiors too plain or cold, the CLA's cabin feels like a high-tech lounge," he notes. Coming from the MG Windsor, he found the step up in interior quality significant and immediately apparent.

His wishes — more ground clearance and unpaid comfort features. Everything else, he says, has exceeded expectations.
