2026 Tata Tiago EV Facelift — Everything We Know Before the May 28 Launch
The Tata Tiago EV facelift launches on May 28, 2026. Tata has now revealed both the exterior and interior ahead of launch day. Here is everything confirmed from the teasers — and what to watch for at the launch.
India's most affordable electric hatchback is getting a significant update. Tata Motors has confirmed the facelifted Tiago EV will launch on 28 May 2026 — alongside the updated ICE Tiago — and has released teaser videos revealing both the exterior and interior ahead of the event. ElecTree will be at the launch and will share a first-hand account of the updated car.
The Tiago EV currently starts at ₹7.99 lakh ex-showroom and has been India's go-to entry point into electric mobility since it went on sale in 2023. A lot rides on this facelift — particularly at a time when petrol prices have just been hiked by ₹7.5 per litre in the last week and the case for switching to an EV has never been more financially relevant.
A Sharper Exterior

The facelifted Tiago EV gets a completely redesigned front end. The EV variant distinguishes itself from the ICE version with a fully body-colored closed grille and bumper — clean, modern and in line with what Tata has done with the Punch EV and Nexon EV. New LED headlights with eyebrow-style DRLs replace the outgoing setup and give the car a noticeably more contemporary face. A new Tata.ev badge features on the front doors.
The side profile gets new aero-blade alloy wheels — 14-inch units optimized for range — along with black wheel arch cladding. At the rear, new connected LED tail lamps and a revised bumper complete the update. Tata has also confirmed a 360-degree camera for the Tiago EV — a feature that would be a segment first — with camera modules visible on the ORVMs and front bumper in the teasers.
An Interior That Feels Genuinely Updated

The cabin has been redesigned more substantially than the outgoing model's mid-cycle updates would suggest. The dashboard now follows a layered theme — lighter fabric upholstery on the upper section with a dark grey lower half, giving it a two-tone feel that lifts the perceived quality considerably.
The headline addition is a new freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the same unit seen on the Punch EV facelift. Below it sit horizontally oriented AC vents, followed by a clean row of buttons for hazard lights, regenerative braking modes and other functions. The steering wheel is new — a Tata.ev branded two-spoke flat-bottom unit with controls for infotainment and cruise control.
The digital instrument cluster has also been refreshed. A push start-stop button features, ORVMs are now auto-folding, and the window switch design has been updated. Crucially, the rear now gets dedicated AC vents — a notable addition in a hatchback at this price point that will make a real difference for rear passengers.

What We Are Watching For at the Launch
The teaser details cover design and features. The bigger questions remain unanswered until 28 May.
Battery configuration is the most important one. Reports suggest Tata will discontinue the 19.2 kWh pack and make the 24 kWh battery the base option. More significantly, a new 30 kWh battery with a real world range of around 260-280 km is expected — potentially using prismatic cells sourced from Gotion, which would be more energy-dense than the existing cylindrical cells. A new 6-in-1 i-drive motor integrating the motor, controller and related components into a single unit — as seen on the Punch EV facelift — is also widely expected, producing 80-88 PS and 140 Nm versus the current 60-74 PS.
Six airbags are expected across variants, a significant safety upgrade from the current two. BaaS — Battery as a Service — is also likely to make an appearance, which would allow buyers to purchase the car at a lower upfront price and pay for the battery separately.
None of these have been officially confirmed yet. We will have the complete picture on May 28.
Why This Launch Matters
The Tiago EV does not compete with any other electric hatchback in India — it is in a segment of its own. But it competes with petrol hatchbacks, and that is the real battle. With petrol now crossing ₹100 per litre in Delhi and ₹110 in some metropolitan cities, the running cost advantage of an electric hatchback has widened significantly. At ₹8 lakh, charged primarily at home, running at under ₹1 per kilometre, is a financially compelling alternative to a petrol hatchback for the urban buyer. Tata has sold more than 64,000 units in retail of the Tiago EV which is more than a 25% of its overall EV sales.
A 30 kWh battery with ~300 km of range — if confirmed — would also address the one genuine hesitation most buyers have: enough range to feel comfortable beyond city limits.
ElecTree will be at the launch on May 28. Expect a full first-hand report shortly after.
