The call of the open road is hard to resist, especially when you’re behind the wheel of an electric vehicle, cruising through India’s kaleidoscope of landscapes. Santosh Dash, an EV enthusiast, answered that call with an epic 2,960-kilometer round trip from Bengaluru to Bhubaneswar and back in a Tata Curvv EV. His meticulously logged journey is a vibrant tale of scenic highways, strategic charging stops and the sheer joy of electric travel. Let’s hit the road with Santosh and explore how this adventure proves EVs are ready for India’s vast distances.
On September 19, 2025, Santosh and two companions set off from Bengaluru at 10:00 PM in their Tata Curvv EV Accomplished+ S 55, powered by a 55 kWh battery. Starting with a 94% state of charge (SoC) under 25°C skies, they aimed for Bhubaneswar, 1,444 km away, across Karnataka andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Using a mix of city and sports modes, with regenerative braking at level 1 and AC at 24-25°C, they balanced efficiency with driving thrill.
The first 359-km leg to Nellore unfolded through the night, averaging 55 km/h on smooth highways. Arriving at 4:30 AM with 33% SoC, Santosh topped up to 100% in just over an hour at a Voltran 60 kW charger for ₹847, skipping a planned Tirupati stop. A quick nap and breakfast later, they were back on the road, the Curvv’s quiet cabin a haven in the early morning calm.
By midday, after 320 km to Gannavaram andhra Pradesh, the temperature hit 36°C, but the AC kept things comfortable. A 23-minute Voltran charge (24% to 59%, ₹489) powered the 141-km stretch to Rajamahendravaram, where rivers and greenery stole the show. Driven at 77 km/h in sports mode, this leg ended at 2:15 PM in 38°C heat, with hunger calling for a hearty lunch. Santosh chose an overnight stop at a hotel with a Tata 7 kW charger, hitting 100% SoC for ₹950 over eight hours—a seamless blend of rest and recharge.
On September 21, the final 624 km to Bhubaneswar was a highlight. The 295-km drive to Srikakulam offered pristine roads and lush views, with a 36-minute Voltran charge (30% to 84%, ₹758) keeping things smooth. The last 329 km flew by despite 39°C heat, with snack breaks and scenic pauses adding joy. Santosh arrived at 6:35 PM with 14% SoC, logging 24 hours and 45 minutes of driving at 8.62 km/kWh efficiency. Total charging cost: ₹3,044 across four stops. The Curvv’s tech and comfort made this long family trip a breeze.
After soaking in Bhubaneswar’s cultural charm, Santosh began the 1,516-km return on October 3, 2025, at 4:00 AM, with 100% SoC. The 28°C morning set a serene tone, though rural highways with occasional stray animals kept him alert. The first 300 km to Nimmada’s Hari Convention, driven at 49 km/h, ended at 10:05 AM with 24% SoC. A 42-minute Jio-bp Pulse 60 kW charge (to 84%, ₹912.58) paired with a meal break fueled the next leg.
The 317-km stretch to Jagannadhapuram Agraharam, at 63 km/h in sports mode, hit 38°C. A 49-minute Voltran charge (9% to 82%, ₹1,019) powered the 258-km run to Guntur Bypass, reached by 9:34 PM. Exhausted, Santosh took an 11-hour rest without charging. On October 4, a 104-km sprint to Ongole faced a power cut, stretching the Voltran charge to 71 minutes (12% to 89%, ₹1,065). Undaunted, he cruised 270 km to Tirupati’s PVK Residency at 72 km/h, enjoying a two-hour stop with lunch and a full charge to 100% for ₹1,050 at an E-Mobility 60 kW station.
The final 267 km to Bengaluru’s Gunjur ended at 10:30 PM, with 41% SoC after 25 hours and 44 minutes of driving at 7.81 km/kWh efficiency. Total charging cost: ₹4,046.58. Despite the power glitch, the return was smooth, scenic and a testament to EV reliability.
Santosh’s near-3,000-km adventure showcases the Tata Curvv EV’s long-haul prowess. Its range, comfort and tech, paired with India’s growing charging network, made this trip not just doable but delightful. With ₹7,090 in charging costs and zero emissions, the savings and eco-benefits are clear. Minor hurdles—heat, rural road quirks and one power outage—paled against the joy of cruising through India’s diverse landscapes. You can read Santosh's and many other's complete logs here.
