Including the Sierra EV: The Six Electrified Launches Defining India's Mid-2026 Car Market

India’s EV market is entering a busy launch phase starting June 2026, with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift (S450e) already launched and the highly anticipated Tata Sierra EV expected on June 30. Several other models, including the Kia Syros EV and Honda Elevate EV, are also lined up in the coming months.

India's car market is in the middle of one of its busiest electrification stretches yet. On June 15, 2026, Mercedes-Benz rolled out the facelifted S-Class with the brand's first non-AMG plug-in hybrid sold in the country, the S 450e. Two weeks later, on June 30, Tata Motors is expected to pull the wraps off the production version of the Sierra EV, a nameplate that has been teased, concept-shown, and speculated about since 2020. Both launches have, understandably, hogged the headlines.

But zoom out a little, and the picture gets more interesting. Sitting just behind these two marquee launches are four more electrified models that are due in Indian showrooms over the following months: the Kia Syros EV, the Honda Elevate EV, the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, and BYD's push into more affordable EV territory. Each of these targets a completely different kind of buyer, from first-time EV owners shopping under Rs 20 lakh to premium SUV buyers weighing the BMW iX3. Here's a detailed, fact-checked look at all six.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift (S 450e)

Already launched, June 15, 2026, from Rs 2.20 crore. This is the first non-AMG plug-in hybrid S-Class sold in India: a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol paired with a 120 kW motor and 22 kWh battery, making 435 hp and 680 Nm, with about 115 km of WLTP electric-only range. Mercedes says over 2,700 components were reworked, the brand's biggest single-generation update to the car. It debuts the new MBUX "Superscreen" (14.4-inch central display plus two 12.3-inch screens) running MB.OS, plus up to 15 airbags. Deliveries start around Diwali 2026.

Tata Sierra EV

Expected June 30, 2026 (date not yet officially confirmed by Tata, but widely reported), Tata Motors is expected to pull the wraps off the production version of the Sierra EV.  Likely built on the acti.ev+ platform with 65 kWh/75 kWh battery options, RWD and AWD variants, and a claimed range around 500-550 km. Expected price: Rs 18-25 lakh. Slots between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. Nothing here is locked in yet, treat specs as estimates until Tata's own announcement.

Four more EVs are coming up that aren't getting nearly as much attention:

Kia Syros EV

Kia has officially confirmed, via its 2026 investor presentation, that the Syros EV will make its India debut in July 2026. This will be Kia's second locally manufactured EV in the country after the Carens Clavis EV, taking its total India EV line-up to four models alongside the EV6 and EV9. Crucially, it's expected to become Kia's most affordable EV in India by a wide margin, slotting in well below the Carens Clavis EV.

Expected July 2026, Kia's most affordable EV in India. Likely 42 kWh battery, ~133 bhp, range estimates of 300-380 km, priced around Rs 14-20 lakh.

Honda Elevate EV

Expected around August 2026, Honda's first EV globally launching first in India. Battery estimates range widely (45-60 kWh), with claimed range reports anywhere from 400-600 km, wide enough that it's best treated as a rough guide only. Expected price: Rs 14-20 lakh.

Inside, expect a meaningfully updated cabin over the ICE Elevate, with a larger touchscreen (likely around 10.25 inches), a new digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air update capability. Honda is also expected to bring its Honda Sensing ADAS suite to the car, including collision mitigation braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control, alongside six airbags as standard.

Mercedes-Benz GLC EV

Already revealed globally (unlike the others, specs are official, not estimated): 94 kWh battery, up to 713 km WLTP range, 800V architecture, 330 kW fast charging. India launch expected later in 2026, price likely Rs 60-70 lakh.

Inside, the GLC EQ debuts with the largest screen Mercedes-Benz has ever fitted to a production car: a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen stretching across the entire dashboard, combining the driver display, central infotainment, and passenger screen into one continuous panel, running a newer version of MBUX with a built-in AI assistant. Notably, Mercedes has also reintroduced physical buttons and scroll wheels on the steering wheel and centre console, a deliberate step back from fully capacitive controls. The car also gets S-Class-derived optional Airmatic air suspension and optional rear-axle steering capable of turning up to 4.5 degrees at low speed.

BYD's affordable push

BYD's actual confirmed affordable-EV plan for India is the Atto 2, expected in 2026 at roughly Rs 17-25 lakh, below the existing Atto 3. Globally, the Atto 2 is reported to come with a 410 km range, a 176 hp motor, and 45.1-51.1 kWh Blade Battery packs, and BYD has reportedly been road-testing the car in India since mid-2025. Industry estimates place its likely India price in the Rs 17-25 lakh range, which would put it up against the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Maruti e Vitara, a notch above true entry-level pricing, but still BYD's cheapest EV here by a clear margin.

The Bigger Picture

Put together, these six launches sketch out two very different stories happening at the same time. At the top end, Mercedes-Benz is using plug-in hybrid and full-electric technology to keep its flagship and SUV ranges relevant to buyers who aren't ready to go fully electric but want the option to. At the volume end, Tata, Kia, and Honda are all racing to fill out the sub-Rs-25-lakh electric SUV space that's quickly becoming the most contested segment in Indian retail, one where charging anxiety, real-world range, and pricing precision matter far more than 0-100 kmph times.

Worth remembering, too, that with the exception of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift (already launched) and the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV (already revealed globally with confirmed specifications), every other vehicle in this piece, the Sierra EV, Syros EV, Elevate EV, and BYD's affordable models remains in "expected" territory as of this writing. Dates, prices, battery sizes, and range figures for those four will only be final once each manufacturer makes its own official announcement, so it's worth treating pre-launch numbers as informed estimates rather than guarantees.
