8,236km Kutch-to-Kaziranga EV Road Trip Becomes a Book, Cover Unveiled by Mahindra Leadership
Prafulla Kolhe's book on his 8,236km, 20-day EV road trip from Kutch to Kaziranga in a Mahindra XUV400 had its cover unveiled by Mahindra's EV leadership. The India Heritage Drive – K2K releases in November.
Mahindra's electric vehicle leadership has lent its support to a new book chronicling one of the most ambitious EV road trips undertaken in India. The cover of The India Heritage Drive – K2K: From Kutch to Kaziranga on Electric Power, written by EV community member Prafulla Kolhe, was unveiled by Dr. Velusamy Ramasamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Ganesh Adiga, Vertical Head, Electric Vehicles, Mahindra Group.
The book documents a 20-day, 8,236km expedition across ten Indian states, covering 15 heritage destinations in a Mahindra XUV400 EV — from the ancient Harappan city of Dholavira in Kutch, Gujarat, to the wilderness of Kaziranga in Assam. It is due for release in November.
The Unveiling

For Prafulla, having the cover unveiled by Dr. Velusamy Ramasamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Ganesh Adiga, Vertical Head, Electric Vehicles, Mahindra Group, was significant beyond the moment itself. "It signified that the journey was being taken as seriously by Mahindra's leadership as it had been by me throughout its conception, execution, and eventual transformation into a book," Prafulla notes. "That recognition made the occasion deeply meaningful."
He says the gesture reflected something bigger than a courtesy. "Their gracious gesture instilled not only greater confidence in the Mahindra EVs and the vision behind it, but also in the company's culture of listening to and engaging with its end users," he adds. What stayed with him, he says, wasn't just their presence but their genuine interest in the story behind the journey — "a leadership style that values authentic customer experiences and meaningful engagement."
Prafulla's Motivation
Prafulla is an admin and active member of several EV communities in India, where he interacts daily with owners who are excited about electric mobility but hesitant to take it on long-distance trips. He says range anxiety and charging concerns still keep many people from considering an EV for road trips, even years after he completed his own expedition.
"Those who do venture out in EVs often approach the journey with a single objective — to get from Point A to Point B as efficiently as possible," he explains. "In that process, they sometimes miss the very essence of road travel: taking detours, discovering hidden gems, interacting with local communities, and immersing themselves in the history, culture and landscapes that make every journey memorable. I wanted to demonstrate that an electric vehicle can offer that same freedom."
He excitingly tells ElecTree that the book is his way of challenging those perceptions. "Through the Kutch to Kaziranga expedition, I wanted to show that an EV is not merely capable of crossing India — it can become a companion in discovering India," he says.
The expedition builds on an earlier tri-nation drive Prafulla undertook across mainland India, Nepal and Bhutan, which he says reinforced his belief that the real limitations to EV travel are often in mindset rather than in the technology itself.
With The India Heritage Drive – K2K, Prafulla Kolhe adds another chapter to India's growing case for long-distance and heritage EV travel — one heritage site, and one charge, at a time.
